Introduction
Policies governing nursing practices and nursing administration, at the international, Canadian, Quebec provincial, regional and local levels, can be viewed through the framework of the key principles of political analysis and of the social and normative ground-rules of political action. While analysis of nursing administration issues draw upon existing theoretical knowledge, the tools of political analysis enable to examine the context within which this knowledge is developed. One of the premises of this course is that nursing perspective on health policies is of importance for ensuring a better representation of needs in the definition of health issues. In this respect, the political analysis applied to nursing practice and administration is viewed as a key component of political intervention in health care, likely to contribute to resolve many policy issues.
